Another L.A. Snapshot
Our civic forefathers had a grand eye for the
impressive edifice. Witness the County General
Hospital built between 1927 and 1933, complete
with temple-of-the-gods-and-goddesses lines and
bragging rights of being the largest single
hospital west of Chicago. Still stands today.
The lesson here?
Good citizens, please take note of this sterling
example that the wisdom and vision of our forefathers
and foremothers are subject to challenge. Then, now
and in the future.
Because what greeted all those poor, ailing and
worried folk seeking treatment and solace?
Yep, this arduous climb of dozens of stairs.
WTF was that?

The Wellness Clinic.
A cuppa irony, anyone?

good point!! man, we were unaware back in the day. on the other hand, buildings like this are something to behold. created a sense that things are being taken seriously… unlike today’s disposable medical buildings.

That structure can be seen for miles from the freeway too. Quite imposing indeed. Reminisce of the grand steps to the NYC Library and/or Museum… however, doesn’t really make any sense at all leading to a hospital where people are often struggling with pain and ambulatory challenges! At least the wellness patients will get some cardio in while trekking up to their appointment!
Great photo, by the way!

Okay, where’s the handicap ramp. Great thought piece. The good and the bad, past and present.

The area around the hospital has become a USC city in it’s own right.
