Alert! Alert! Alert!
Last weekend attended a perfectly pleasant
less-than-formal gathering of women writers,
where the honey pot of the event was one cozy
creator interviewing another.
Lest there be confusion, cozy is a subgenre of
mysteries. In this case, the adjective probably
applies to the two stars as well. Certainly
applies to their public personae.
In fact, the brighter star of the two was so
sweet and affable and such a good raconteur that
it wasn’t until an hour later it became clear
this sweet little thing had savaged a whole
other subgenre of female writers called hard-boiled
mystery writers, stating they “wrote like a man.”
True that.
And bemoaned how long it took for the real women
writers to recover after WWII and revive the
Agatha Christie-like voice of the true distaff
scribe.
Holy moly, Batgirl.
WTF is that?

Also a good reminder to pay attention and
listen carefully for the message lurking
in stories that go down silky smooth.
Especially during this divisive election time.
