Adrenaline Junkies, Rejoice!
It’s not often that a fifteen-second filler item at
the end of the evening news makes the stomach
drop, heart rate accelerate, and breath shorten
to shallow pants.
But today did it.
Given the way these things work — with the
planning, the permits, the public hearings, the
environmental impact reports — how did this one
miss the radar?
Feel like the last to know that the US Bank Tower,
at this moment still the tallest building in L.A.,
is attaching a glass slide to its exterior, and
people can pay eight dollars for the privilege of
whooshing from the seventieth floor to the sixty-
ninth floor.
While hanging/jutting out into the ether.
Hundreds and hundreds of feet above the
unforgiving cement of an urban courtyard.
Really? Is this the beginning of a new wave
of developer’s ingenuity to squeeze the last
possible dollar out of a high rise/high rent
investment?
The heart rate is still in fight-or-flight
territory.
And we wonder at the unkind perception of
some that this town is completely wacko.
WTF is that?
