Do You Believe?
A neighbor and I have noticed for several weeks
loud footsteps and cracklings on the building roof
at various hours, sometimes as late as one or
two in the morning.
Elephant walking loud steps.
A couple times during daylight hours a streak up
the staircase to investigate noise yielded nothing.
Whoever — must have streaked down the opposite
stairwell.
The neighbor also has streaked up. At night. And ditto.
Nada. Zippo. Bupkes. Zero.
But it is dark up there, I comment.
It was suggested the pops and creaks could be
caused by heating and cooling in the freakishly
hot weather.
It was suggested this 1928 building might be haunted.
All wrong, says my neighbor. Mystery solved.
He announced last night that, no, somebody is
really on the roof, because he checked the baby fridge
next to his barbecue.
All the beers are still there.
But added to the bubbly stash was a bong and a baggie
of pot.
Never knew weed rendered the smoker(s) invisible.
Which is the new mystery. Could it be?
WTF is that?
