Really-Red Red Velvet Cupcakes
At the Little Tokyo Starbucks wondered how they get such stunningly lush color in their cupcakes since the FDA outlawed that carcinogenic favorite, Red Dye No. 2.
It comes from boiling cochineals, aka insects, to extract the carmine. So bugs are the new red.
Thank you, Mr. Google, for that enlightenment.
On the other hand, they use flour that is gluten-free.
