Getting Out The Vote
This was the week to elect reps for our neighborhood council, a system instituted by City Hall to provide a more responsive interceder for us citizens.
Anybody can cast a ballot who is a stakeholder in the neighborhood.
In the robust and unexpected crowd waiting for the poll to open at three p.m. on a Thursday, there was a surprising number of construction types.
That’s cool. Working on the high rise next door could give a person an interest in the ‘hood. Their supervisor assures them repeatedly they can go home as soon as they vote.
There was a cluster of women wearing office shirts with matching company logos, puzzling over paperwork bearing the same logo.
I’m getting the idea.
Me: You work in the area?
They: Yeah.
Me: Nice of you to wait in this long line.
They: Our boss sent us down.
Me: Ah.
They: Did your boss send you down?
Me: No.
They: Then what are you doing here?
WTF is that?
